Mounting Options for our Door Signs, Office Nameplates, Conference Room Signs & Vinyl Installation Instructions

Please consider a few ideas for hanging our office signs, door signs and room signs. Professional office nameplates enhance any office environment with a consistent look throughout your building, rooms, hallways or reception area.

Office Sign Company offers a variety of mounting options (most at no additional charge) to best suit your needs and mounting surfaces. Most options have very specific applications, so please refer to the appropriate section below for the mounting option you have selected for installation instructions. Please note that we include enough of each selected mounting option to accommodate the size and weight of your signs.

Office Sign Company does not accept responsibility for damage resulting from improper installation. Customers are responsible for determining the suitability of each mounting option. Testing is recommended prior to each use. Consult your local building codes/regulations for requirements regarding mounting height.

two sided foam tape sign installation Double-Sided Foam Tape
Our industrial-strength, double-sided foam tape creates a very secure bond between your sign and mounting surface. We offer both a thinner white foam tape and a wider black foam tape; unless specifically requested otherwise, we will include whichever type we deem most appropriate for each sign type. The foam tape is suitable for most hard surfaces, including walls and doors. Please note that if your surface is porous or coarse, a secure bond may not be obtained using our foam tape, in which case other mounting options should be explored. A clean surface is also advised for the best bond. We do not guarantee foam tape on dirty or porous surfaces. Adding a silicone adhesive to the back of a sign on a bumpy or porous surface is recommended to aid adhesion.

If you determine that the double-sided foam tape will best suit your needs, we will attach enough strips of tape on the back of your sign to accommodate both its size and weight. To adhere your signs to your mounting surface, simply remove the protective paper from the adhesive strips and affix the sign accordingly. Start with a clean mounting surface to ensure optimal adhesion and be sure to measure and mark the exact location of your sign prior to adhering; the tape will instantly bond with your surface and is difficult to relocate once bonded.

If removal of your sign is necessary, the foam tape may damage the mounting surface if not removed with care. Do not pull on your sign to remove it from the wall; this may cause damage to your sign, as well as the mounting surface. It is best to determine where the tape is located on the back of the sign and then insert an object such as a putty knife between the tape and the mounting surface. Gently but firmly separate the tape from the surface, working with the direction of the tape strips (i.e., if your tape runs in vertical strips, start at the top of the sign and work your way down).

A chemical adhesive remover, such as Goo-Gone, can be used to remove any residue left behind after the tape has been removed from the mounting surface.
mounting door or wall signs with screws Screw Mount
Many of our sign frames, including enclosed plastic frames and open-style metal frames, are equipped with screw holes that may be accessed if the sign plates are left unglued/untaped. Screw mounting is meant to be permanent, so other options should be explored if you intend to move your signs frequently. This type of mounting is suitable for most hard surfaces.

Unfortunately, our enclosed metal frames do not have screw holes, but you can drill into the Masonite backer boards in order to install by screw. Office Sign Company will not be held responsible for any damage caused to our products by customers during mounting.

Screws are NOT included with your order due to the widely varying mounting surfaces of our customers. Your signs will require specific screws with certain lengths depending upon the mounting surface (i.e., wood screws for wooden doors, screws and anchors for sheetrock, etc.). Each customer is responsible for determining his/her needs and furnishing the proper hardware.

If you determine that screw mounting will best suit your needs, we will leave your sign plates unglued from the frames; you will then be responsible for adhering the plates into the frames after installation. Simply remove the protective paper from the adhesive strip and affix the plate accordingly.

Please note that if the plates arrive in the frames, the enclosed suction cup should be used to remove the plates from the frames to ensure that the plates do not sustain damage.
velcro sign mount Velcro
Our two-part Velcro mounting system includes both hooks and loops to mount your signs to most hard surfaces. The hooks and loops are designed to work together, so Office Sign Company cannot guarantee that your signs will be securely mounted to your surface if you elect to exclude either portion.

Velcro is a great option for those customers who wish to make their signs interchangeable. If employees or floor plans change regularly, you can very easily remove the sign from the door/wall and relocate it to a new location with no mess or fuss. If you do need to remove the loop portion from your mounting surface, a chemical adhesive remover, such as Goo-Gone, can be used to remove any residue left behind.

We typically use small Velcro dots for our products, but we will include industrial-strength strips of Velcro for larger, heavier signs at our discretion.

If you determine that Velcro will best suit your needs, we will adhere the hook portion to your signs and enclose the loops to be adhered to your mounting surface. Be sure to start with a clean mounting surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion and measure and mark the exact location for your sign. We recommend that you attach the loops to the hooks on the back of your sign and then remove the protective paper/plastic on the adhesive side(s). Then position your sign accordingly and press the adhesive firmly onto the surface. This will ensure that the loops are properly positioned to align correctly with the hooks.

Velcro is a less aggressive mounting option and the customer is responsible for the performance of the velcro mounting.
clear glass tape for mounting signs on glass for a clean look 3M Clear Tape
For mounting to glass and plastic surfaces, we offer a durable doubled-sided clear tape that will create a secure bond between your sign and your mounting surface. This is a great option for glass doors or windows that require signage. Please note that it is industrial strength and is meant to be semi-permanent.

If you determine that the clear glass tape will best suit your needs, we will attach enough strips of tape to the back of your sign to accommodate both its size and weight. To adhere your signs to your glass surface, simply remove the protective plastic from the adhesive strips and affix the sign accordingly. Start with a clean mounting surface to ensure optimal adhesion and be sure to measure and mark the exact location of your sign prior to adhering.

A chemical adhesive remover, such as Goo-Gone, can be used to remove any residue left behind if you need to remove the tape from the glass surface.
magnetic sign mounting Magnetic Tape
Our two-part magnetic mounting system includes both metal foil and magnetic strips to mount your signs to most hard surfaces. The foil and magnets are designed to work together, so Office Sign Company cannot guarantee that your signs will be securely mounted to your surface if you elect to exclude either portion.

Magnetic tape is a great option for those customers who wish to make their signs and sign frames interchangeable. If employees, room numbers or floor plans change regularly, you can very easily remove the sign from the door or wall and relocate it to a new location with ease.

If you determine that magnetic tape will best suit your needs, we will adhere the magnet portion to your signs and enclose the foil to be adhered to your mounting surface. Be sure to start with a clean mounting surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion. We recommend that you attach the foil to the magnets on the back of your sign and then remove the protective paper/plastic on the adhesive side(s). Then position your sign accordingly and press the adhesive firmly onto the surface. This will ensure that the foil is properly positioned to align correctly with the magnet.

Magnetic tape can also be used to make our sign plates interchangeable within frames. A suction cup will be required to remove the plates from the frames. We will typically attach the foil strips to the sign plate itself, and then the magnet will be attached inside the sign frame.

NOTE: Each customer is solely responsible for testing the strength of magnetic mounting, along with choosing the right application for it. For example, we do not recommend using a non-permanent mounting solution, such as magnetic tape, on a moving surface (i.e., doors, windows, etc.), and we will not be held responsible for any damage caused to either your signage or mounting surface.
Metal Cubicle Mount Fangs for Mounting Signs & NamePlates to Cubicle Walls and Fabric Cubicle Fangs
Our 1" x 1" metal cubicle fangs are a great option for fastening signage to cloth surfaces such as fabric on cubicle walls without causing damage to the mounting surface. They can be purchased individually or in tandem with your signs; we typically adhere the cubicle fangs to the back of your sign, but you can attach them using a double-sided white foam tape as well. Our standard nameplates (i.e., 2" x 9", 2" x 10", etc.) usually require three (3) cubicle fangs (one on each end and one in the center). Larger signs may require more.

If you purchase cubicle fangs individually, you can attach them to the back of your sign in the appropriate location using a glue/adhesive or double-sided tape. An adhesive is not included for orders of cubicle fangs only.

If you determine that cubicle fangs will best suit your needs, an additional fee may be incurred, which will be dependent upon the number of fang mounts that are required to sufficiently support the weight of your signage.

NOTE: Each customer is solely responsible for testing the suitability of cubicle fangs as they may not work with all fabric surfaces, as well as with choosing the right application for them. For example, we do not recommend using a non-permanent mounting solution, such as cubicle fangs, on a moving surface (i.e., doors, windows, etc.), and we will not be held responsible for any damage caused to either your signage or mounting surface.
Partion Pins and Cubicle Cloth Pins Partition Pins
Partition pins are the ideal mounting option for adhering signs to fabric. The pin is 1–5/8" long and will work in all fabrics due to the length and sharpness of the pin. All pins come with low profile foam tape that is attached to a 1"W x 3/4"H thin clear plastic square for adhering to your sign. Typically we adhere (2) pins to a standard office nameplate.
